Hear Me Out: Exploring Social Justice Through Student Storytelling and Podcasts LIMITED
Tuesday February 25, 2025 10:00am - 10:50am CST
Listen, hear me out: what if we give a student a microphone and let them tell a story? This workshop invites educators to explore the powerful role podcasting can play in fostering critical conversations about social justice among students. Podcasting provides a dynamic platform for students to share personal narratives, amplify underrepresented voices, and examine the societal challenges that shape their lives.

Following a year-long program exploring civil rights through the Civil Rights Scholars Program, five scholars came together on the inaugural Civil Rights Scholars Advisory Council within the Office of Student Protections and Title IX to dive deeper into social justice through the lenses of Identity, Diversity, Justice, and Action. Using podcasting to guide their curiosity, the scholars are exploring both technology and the power of stories to educate, motivate, and mobilize others around issues important to them.

The council is ongoing this school year. They utilize SoundTrap to create their podcasts and this software will be mentioned in the presentation, but the content is not limited to only SoundTrap users. Successes, challenges, and guidance for bringing podcasting into a classroom/program will be shared.

Automating the Boring Stuff: Exploring Google Apps Script FILLING
Tuesday February 25, 2025 11:00am - 11:50am CST
Repetitive tasks frequently arise in our schools, and they SUCK! At least for tasks involving the Google Suite (Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, etc), we can cut down on some of the annoyance of it all by automating the boring things. Using Google Apps Script, Google users can code custom bots that complete tasks for them. And, with generative AI, ChatGPT can assist in writing code to build our solutions.

Senior Data Analyst Tyler Portis from Noble Schools will tell his story of working with ChatGPT to build a Google Apps Script bot that emails appropriate co-workers daily a list of Google Form submissions from the last 24 hours. Participants will have a chance to program and deploy their app.

Note: Being comfortable with coding/excel/programmatic thinking will be beneficial. All are welcome, though."
